It's morning, and the three of them are in the forest. They're starving, and they're worried about running into the Tatar soldiers. They try to catch a squirrel to eat, but it's too late. The squirrel has a nest full of food, so they can eat it. They don't want to starve, but they do want to know where the arrow came from, and who the people are. The wolf tells them to be careful, because they'll be bandits if they get into trouble. They thank the wolf for saving them, and he and his sister are going to visit relatives. They ran into a battle with the troops, and so they fled.
