About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young protagonist, Lingzi, expresses her frustration at having no friends or relatives to keep in touch with. She tells the reader that she does not have a phone and that she would like to see her voice at the square or at home. She asks the reader to come to her house before dinner to hear her voice. The protagonist wonders if the love between Lingzi and her lover is real or if it is just a figment of his imagination. She wonders if he sees another person through her and if his tenderness and concern for her is real. She also wonders if her name is real, but she cannot tell whether it is or not. In the meantime, the protagonist learns that the construction of a new concert hall has been delayed by a year. He also learns that he has caught a cold on the way to the city. He tells Lingzi to eat her medicine and not to worry, as he will be fine the next day. He then tells her to drink some water to help her feel better. The young protagonist is so happy that she wants to talk to her, but her happiness makes her cough and she tells her lover to stop feeding her medicine by mouth. She then tells him to put his foot on her lover's stomach all night to help him sleep better.
