About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the demon king's "weak alliance" doesn't stand in the way of his plan. In fact, he's using it to his advantage. He's making it sound as though the whole thing is going to be easy, when in fact it's going to take a lot of hard work and planning to make it work. This is the first time that we've seen the two of them together, and we're not sure what to make of it. It's clear that they're on the same wavelength, but they don't seem to know how to use each other's powers of perception. They're talking about the "river of life" and the "soul elements" of the river, and they can't figure out how to communicate with each other. They can only talk about what they can see, and that's all they can do. They have a generation to go through, so they'll have to talk about the past, not about the present. They should just go through the "whole plot" instead of just the "interlude" , because it'll help the "stymy fox's" reputation. The two are both surprised that the other guy is so frank, but the narrator points out that the two are different from each other in that they carry the demon's consciousness within them. The narrator also notes that he is in the same situation, and he'll need to hold his moral bottom line.
