About This Chapter
The narrator explains that he has come to see Oswald because he has a book that he wants to show Oswald. The book is a secret history of the Catholic Church, written in the middle ages. The narrator says that he believes that Oswald holds the book in his hands and that he is able to unravel the secrets contained in the book. Oswald says that the book was the key to his discovery of the secret of the Domas porada. He says that what finally brought the pieces together was Oswald's ability to use the Bom to deduce the meaning of the Latin words. Oswald is amazed that this cannot be the case. The Bom is a symbol that is used to denote the number of fathers in a family. He believes that there are no more fathers in the family than there are possible father-son relationships. The only solution to the problem is to use a simple relic from an ancient religion. The Domas Porada, he says, is a prison. In order to weaken it, the devil used the spirit of a knight named Vascar de Guillon, who would later become known as Teta Elmirela.
