In this chapter, we learn that the young woman, Akane, is now a student at Yonsei University and that she is engaged to Yonsei's son, Yonsei. Yonsei is the son of a prominent member of the university's faculty, and Yonsei suspects that his son is in love with Akane. Akane's father works for the school's colloquium, a group of students who meet regularly to discuss the latest developments in the world. Yonse's suspicions are aroused when he learns that Akane has sent him a series of text messages inquiring about the whereabouts of her father. He suspects that the texts are meant to convey the message that he is returning home early that morning. He decides that he will go to Akane and find out what has happened.
