Zhao, the twenty-year-old boy, receives an invitation to meet with his long-lost friends. He is surprised to learn that his old friend's little sister has been following behind him. Zhao feels more lost than ever since he separated from the orphanage and lost touch with her. He wonders why they should not stay the night to accompany her to the funeral. He feels free now that he is alone, and he wonders if witnessing death might make him understand what it is like to stay alive
