The narrator reflects on how lucky he is to be able to touch someone. When he was younger, he would lose his temper and get into fights. He thinks that if he touched someone, he could read their feelings. Now, he thinks, he can read someone's feelings. The narrator is shocked to find that he has never met the guy in his department before. He remembers that he used to go to his department's freshmen orientation and that the guy looked like a "hard nut to crack" . He wonders if the guy is shy, and wonders if his power is getting stronger. He concludes that if the situation is difficult, the more his power shines.
