In this chapter, the reader is introduced to a new character named "Ford Leon," who is a member of the same mercenary family as Jack. Jack's father was a smith, and the two men grew up together in the town of Brighton, in the south-east of England. Jack is the son of a mercenary soldier and his wife is a smith's daughter.
