About This Chapter
In this second part of the story, we learn that sakura-gawa is a trans-formed ykai, or woman, who has a right eye and a left leg that are prosthetistic. She and her friend have been waiting for the doll to arrive, and now that spring break is over, they're ready to go back to school. They're grateful that the town is letting them stay, and they hope that they'll be able to solve the problem quickly. They don't really know what to do with the doll, but they do know that it can move and shoot electricity out of it's hand. They also learn that the doll was made by an acquaintance who found a meteorite about ten years before. The acquaintance was having a terrible neuralgia, so he kept the meteorite in his house. He's obsessed with it ever since, and the meteorite has become his "greatest treasure" . The boy friend asks if he thinks the doll can replace his grandson, and he says he's had a lot of heartache already, and that he'd like to deal with it too. He also says that destroying the doll would be a simple matter, since no one could get near it. They bury the doll in the sand below their house, and use remote detonations to set it off. They can also shoot electricity from the doll's arm with the meteor in it. If they can't do that, they can use flammable materials to do the same thing. They even have a detonator that they can set off whenever they want without getting too close to the doll. The only problem with this plan is that it would involve the college students. They hate the students, but there's no evidence of them dying from mysterious causes. If the doll were to leave the town, people would start talking about it, and then the town would be ruined. They could pretend to be dead, but it would be very difficult to get the rope to catch it in the proper place. The doll would also be cursed with excruciating pain, which would make the people of the town feel vaguely responsible for the loss of their grandson. The town would feel like a "heavy shadow responsible" for driving the town into ruin, and killing the fish would be even more curse-ful than burning a fire would be, since the town's people would feel responsible for killing a fish and driving it to its ruin. The best thing they could do would be to animate the doll
