About This Chapter
The guardian serpent explains that he will be going to the mountains the next night to find out what has happened to Tsukuna. He tells the senpai that he does not have any magical powers, and that he is merely doing his duty. The senpai asks the guardian serpent if he would like to see him, and the guardian replies that he would only be able to do so if he were the one to go to the place. He says that he was once worshipped by the people of the area as a "water god," but that his "gloomy glory has faded" and that even those who knew him do not believe him to be a god. He explains that the woman who found the body in the swamp was the same woman who killed the man in the forest. The woman threw the body into the swamp because she wanted to hide it, but she could have left it there on the trail to the mountain. The guardian says that if she had gone to the swamp, it would have been easy to reach the place on foot, but if she did not go, it was only natural that she would look for something else. The man who killed yoshihara was a friend of tanio's, and they were found together in her condo. They had been having an affair, but the affair was closed before anyone could figure out who killed them. Tanio moved out of the construction company where she had worked, and she embezzled large sums of money. She found a job, and eventually put her life together. . the man came home and they both knew what he had done. He made a mistake at work, and his wife and child died in an accident. He must have thought it was retribution for his sins five years ago, and at least he would be spared this retribution. The next day, the body was found, and he took it with him. The snake explains that in such cases, the real weapon is usually thrown into a swamp, but in this case, it is the snake that has killed the real killer. The third reason why the woman dropped the body is that she wanted it to rain. She had heard that the snake is a water god, and people had prayed to him for rain, and this act would anger the snake. She wanted to throw the body and other evidence into the river, so that it would be easier for the police to find it.
