About This Chapter
In this short scene, we are introduced to Enobaruchi, the main character of the play. He is a young man who has just returned from a battle in which he was killed by a snake. He tells us that he is very happy to be alive and that he wishes he were dead so that he could have more time to enjoy his life. He wishes that he had been killed by the snake because it would have made him feel more alive. He also wishes that the snake had not killed him. He says that he will always remember the moment when he killed the snake, and that it was the luckiest day of his life, because he was able to kill the snake. The snake tells him that if he had run into him, he would have killed him as well. He then tells him to help him find the body of the snake and dispose of it as long as no one finds it, and he promises to be his friend for life
