About This Chapter
In this chapter, the vampire explains that he is a vampire, too. He tells the reader that he does not drink the blood of a dead person. He explains that the only way to develop a relationship with a human is to lay eyes on her. He says that she taught him about hope and humanity, but that they are already here. The card of the king of swords signifies that one has a "day of reckoning" and that he knows what he must do. He asks if the button on his shirt belongs to him. The last thing he saw before losing his sight was his sister lying on her deathbed. This card represents the loss of his sight and the possibility of future loss. The color red reminds the vampire of blood, and he says that he wants to be like him. He wants to know why the blood he gave the vampire was blood from a dead body. The vampire replies that he wanted to kill him so he could have revenge on him for killing so many people. The next card is a five-sword symbol, signifying shame, disgrace, and loss.
