About This Chapter
In this chapter, Dr. Rivers tries to convince Dr. Bledsoe that he's not the one who killed her brother and sister-in-law. He's just trying to figure out how they survived the accident without him, and how they came to be alive. He also tries to explain that he doesn't have anything to do with their deaths, and that they're the only members of his family who are alive. The two of them, he says, are "sisters" in their past lives, and they might even be sisters in their present lives. He asks if she'd like to stay with her parents for a while, and she says she would, but when she sees that their room is still lit, she suddenly bursts into tears. She says she's sorry that she couldn't marry just one of them. She also says that they don't get along very well, because they've only known each other for a year. She asks why the rescue station didn't find out where she was, and he says it's because of the fact that his brother's and sister's deaths were a "turning point" in his life. He adds that they were both "composed and serious men" and that everyone expected them to marry. They became close because of that.
