In this chapter, we learn that Dr. Bledsoe's suspicions about the murder have been confirmed by the fact that his wife's body was found in the arms of the man who killed her. The man, who we learn is the murderer's brother, is now the prime suspect in the murder and is being questioned by the police. Drusilla, the doctor's wife, is also being questioned. She is also suspected of having bribed the police officer who arrested her husband for the murder. The doctor asks her to cooperate in the investigation.
