About This Chapter
In this chapter, the hero explains that he has heard rumors that a mountain called "danyuan," 400 miles east of the city, lies on a steep mountain range with fierce beasts. He believes that a beast called "lei," with long hair and a raccoon-like appearance, has gone into the bushes and transformed into a human being at once. He urges his servant to search for the beast and to eat its flesh to dispel jealousy and resentment. The wine cellar is the place where the beast is being held. The servant also thinks that the transformation is strange, but the hero says that he saw the beast with his own eyes. He also says that the rumor about the beast's ability to transform into human beings has been false. He explains that the power of the beast, which he calls "the unstable heat power," can cause a person to be corroded by water, to be injured by sea water, and to be able to recover from an injury. He tells the hero to practice using his power more, as the closer a place is to the god's scroll the more prosperous it is.
